This is the first of a series of films by Director Tony Gatlif on the subject of Gypsies, or Roma, and is one film that may be credited in ushering in an entire resurgence of interest in Gypsy music, tapping in as it did into the talents of Roma from India, Egypt, Turkey, Hungary, France, and Spain. A collage of magnificent images and exceptional music, it has become a cult classic.
