Your Mom's A Lesbian, Here's Your Lunch, Have A Good Day

In 1976, the Rev. Jane Adams Spahr, wife and mother of two small boys, separated from her husband because she was a lesbian. The film follows the Reverend as she gradually comes to embrace a part of herself that she had disowned and it explores how her twin sister, her parents, her husband and her children come to honor and respect her for being true to herself and for being a loving and wise person.

Recently, the Permanent Judicial Commission of the Redwoods Presbytery began a disciplinary investigation of Reverend Spahr for her participation in a 2004 same-sex marriage in Canada. Her website states:

“She is looking forward for the Presbytery and for her denomination to discuss and then treat her case and others as well in a fair and just manner. She is mindful of the consequences of her actions.  Janie believes that as a matter of her faith and conscience the laws prohibiting her from treating same gender marriages as equal to heterosexual marriages is unjust and makes the church complicit in perpetuating violence against people and couples who are called ‘less than’ or treated as ‘second class’  by the powers that be.”
