This program follows the daily life of Veerasamy, a Dalit (untouchable caste) who washes clothes in a small village in southern India. The only payment he receives for back-breaking work is the leftovers from their meals to feed his small family. Discrimination based on caste membership has been illegal since India first gained independence in 1947 – but clearly, as this program shows, it still exists.
