Over the past 75 years the radio station CKUA, located in Edmonton, Alberta, has helped to launch the careers of many talented announcers and famous musicians. It has also fostered fiercely loyal fans.
The documentary Radio Worth Fighting For shares the history of the station and documents the evolution of a remarkable social crusade that unfolds when the radio station is shut down. Interviews with CKUA listeners, staff and alumni, including Terry David Mulligan, Robert Goulet and senator/musician Tommy Banks, are combined with footage of television news reports from the time of the shutdown. These scenes paint a compelling picture of people of all ages, classes and tastes banding together on a crusade to get their favorite community treasure back on the air.
