In Bangladesh, a loan of just $60 can completely transform the life of a woman and her family. The pioneering Gameen Bank has granted over two million such micro-loans in its 25-year history. In return, the women are encouraged to follow a code of living called the “Sixteen Decisions.” These principles aim to improve the women’s basic living conditions, are said in unison at regular meetings, and can make as much difference to the women’s lives as the loan itself.
