In the time since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the U.S. government has launched several wars: in Afghanistan, in Iraq and the War on Terror. The epicenter of our war efforts also happens to be among the world’s most geo-politically strategic, rich in natural resources and volatile in religious animosity.

The Link TV Special: Why They Hate Us explores these wars in the context of U.S. foreign policy over the past 50 years -- not only in the Middle East, but also Asia, Latin America and the rest of the world. Part 2 of the special will air the film Breakdown and an excerpt from Robert Greenwald's documentary, Iraq for Sale. It also features an in-studio interview with Phyllis Bennis, a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and author of the book “Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A Primer."

And to look at one particularly fascinating aspect of how U.S. foreign policy is executed, the special will also feature an interview with Jeremy Scahill, author of the new book “Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army.” In it, he contends that our foreign policy is carried out by an unaccountable mercenary army hired by the Pentagon.

ABOUT THE FILMS:
Breakdown

Telling its story in six parts, the film questions the motives for our current wars and wonders whether our interventionist policies are spiraling out of control. Directed by an American-British former BBC and Aljazeera TV reporter and producer, it gives voice to those closely involved in both overt and covert operations, as well as those who see themselves as the victims of much wider political ambitions.

Iraq for Sale
In Iraq for Sale, acclaimed director Robert Greenwald (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, Outfoxed, and Uncovered) takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. The film reveals the connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who allow them to do so.
