Since his landslide victory in Venezuela's 1998 presidential election, Hugo Chavez has been called "Washington's biggest Latin American headache after the old standby, Cuba," by the Wall Street Journal. Chavez has been challenging U.S. interests in Venezuela for years, though for the most part, the Unites States hasn’t taken notice -- until now.
In this Link TV special, we present Finding Bolivar’s Heir. Link TV sent investigative journalist Greg Palast on special assignment to Venezuela to get beyond the U.S. media image of President Hugo Chavez and to find out why the Bush administration would love to oust him. The report offers a never-before-seen interview with Chavez, insight into Chavez’s relationship with the U.S. as well as Chavez’s plans for Venezuela. Palast will also join us in-studio to talk about his findings.
The special also features a selection from Link TV’s recently-launched original series Latin Pulse - or Pulso Latino - the first truly bilingual news program focusing on Latin America. In its first show, Latin Pulse showed Americans just how Hugo Chavez is being covered by the Latin American press. Joining us will be Dante Betteo, “Latin Pulse” series producer, a 20-year newsroom veteran who has worked for PBS, Telemundo and Univision.
