“Amandla! is an incredibly beautiful story of how something as peaceful as music can be a powerful weapon -- music was the inspirational soundtrack to the revolution,” Dave Matthews.

In the Link TV special Songs for Change, we explore the spiritual and communal power of music. Part 1 features the documentary Amandla! A Revolution in Four Part Harmony, winner of the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Also, Vusi Mahlasela, “The Voice of Amandla” will be in conversation in our New York studio to talk about the film, his own life experiences and to perform one of his songs, “The Beauty Of Our Country.”

ABOUT THE FILM:
Amandla! A Revolution in Four Part Harmony
“Amandla! A Revolution in  Four Part Harmony” is the only film that documents the role that music played in struggle against apartheid in South Africa.  The film draws on the memories of familiar artists like Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba and Abdullah Ibrahim, and shines a light on the contribution of Vuyisile Mini, one of the earliest known political activists and singer-songwriters. Through the words and music of people living and dead, a portrait of a time of pain and triumph emerges. "Amandla" is full of music that reveals the best side of the human spirit- the one that forgives and continues to hope.
