While Africa is home to only 10% of the world's population, 70% of the people infected with HIV live in Africa. In Southern Africa, infection rates are highest of all - exceeding 20% of the adult population in much of the region. At least half of all 15 year olds in countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana are projected to die of AIDS in the coming years. Lee Hamilton, Director of The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, moderates a panel that takes an in-depth look at this catastrophe. The distinguished panel features Her Excellency Makate Sheilu Sisulu, South African Amabassador to the U.S.; former U.S. Congressman Ron Dellums, now president of the Healthcare International Management Company and chairman of the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS; and Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Intstitutes of Health. The event was originally broadcast on WNVC-TV. Additional details can be accessed at the Wilson Center site.
