Social Capital Markets

The Social Capital Movement. Call it blended value, call it philanthrocapitalism, call it social investing. Whatever you call it it's a wave, with equal parts movement and emerging asset class, and it's coming together even as traditional investment vehicles, focused only on financial return with no thought for social or environmental impact are crashing around us. Watch the preview, a work in progress for the upcoming documentary.

Social Capital Markets & Impact Investing: A Return to the Real

The Social Capital Movement. Call it blended value, call it philanthrocapitalism, call it social investing. Whatever you call it it’s a wave, with equal parts movement and emerging asset class, and it’s coming together even as traditional investment vehicles, focused only on financial return with no thought for social or environmental impact are crashing around us. Watch the preview, a work in progress for the upcoming documentary.

About Social Capital Markets 2008

A new generation of entrepreneurs and investors, enterprises and institutions have set their sights on creating and scaling sustainable enterprises that can drive the pursuit of a better world. Their efforts combined constitute an emerging Social Capital Market that holds great promise for our shared future at a time of great financial and business turbulence.

The first Social Capital Markets 2008 (SoCap08) conference was held in San Francisco from October 13-15, 2008. It brought together over 600 leaders representing many organizations globally to discuss challenges, opportunities, strategies, and innovations within these emerging markets.

With such a powerful gathering of people at such a critical point in history, Halloran Philanthropies initiated a strategic communications project with LinkTV to expand this conversation beyond the conference - beyond the first movers - to generate wider understanding, enthusiasm and support of the field. Conference footage and more than 40 interviews were captured under a creative commons license making it available to those who want to help expand the field. In addition a documentary is being planned that contextualizes this broad based movement.

If you want more background on the field please visit Xigi.net and Socialcapitalmarkets.net. If you would like to know more about the documentary send an email to mark@halloranphilanthropies.org. More material will be shared with you in the coming weeks so stay tuned…
