About In the Name of the Victims

David Michaelis, Greta Beer and Gabriella Hamerstein are only a few of the human stories behind the hailed and much publicized campaign that was launched in 1990 to bring about the restitution of Jewish property looted by the Nazis and their allies during the Second World War. It was in their name that this campaign of restitution was originally launched, but the results have been painful. Over ten years, billions of dollars were raised, yet none of these characters, or many other victims and descendents, saw any real benefits. Instead of providing closure and a sense of justice, the past decade has only created new wounds and brought bitterness and disappointment.

This documentary follows them in their journey to seek justice, shedding light on the rarely known human reality behind the façade of honed public relations campaigns, high rhetoric and institutional politics.
