World Music: Hector Buitrago, "Altissimo"
-Download the song
(Colombia) Hector Buitrago took time off from his duties with Aterciopelados when his co-bandleader, Andrea Echeverri was creating her own autobiographical solo CD, to do some musical experimentation. The resulting album "Conector" (a bi-lingual play on words, i.e. con-ector; or "with Hector") saw him collaborating with numerous musicians as well as Andrea. In Altissimo he has called upon the soulful voice of Spanish singer Alex Ubago, who along with Echeverri provide the vocals for this highly spiritual song. There's a wonderful juxtaposition of the dark bass and guitar lines on the verse and shimmering chords of the chorus. The animation, along with the lyrics, takes us from the material and industrial to the spiritual and heavenly. "Lofty, angelic, ecstatic" indeed.
