(Colombia) With Carlos Vives and Andres Castro producing her, Adriana Lucia's star is on the rise, and this track shows why. She's got a great, warm, rangy voice with the perfect amount of rasp, and the rhythm section truly kicks ass. The song is from her "Porro Nuevo" CD. Porro is a Colombian musical form, usually played by brass bands, and the traditional stuff sounds almost like a Second Line clavé. Lucia's Porro Nuevo takes that beat and layers it with delicious accordion sounds. The title of the song,"Champeta rosa" is a tip of the hat to Juan Luis Guerra, whose "Bachata Rosa" was a landmark song for Dominican music. In this case, the usually raunchy lyrics of a champeta have been replaced by a sensuous poetry that is sweet, rather than salty.
The video couldn't be simpler-- Adriana rides her bike through a verdant country side, singing the praises of her love, and gathering people along the way till she comes to the Colombian coastline, where everyone gets to party. It's just as well, this video is all about the glorious music, and a most excellent singer.
