World Music: Leandro Lehart with Seu Jorge and Vai Vai, "É Nós do Morro"

(Brazil) Leandro Lehart first came to prominence in 1990, when he founded "Art Popular" one of the most popular samba groups in Brazil. He has been behind the scenes as a producer and an entrepreneur, but in his solo outing DVD SambaPopBrazilMestiz he's right up front. "É Nós do Morro" was composed by Seu Jorge, Arlindo Cruz and Rogê, and it's an homage to an NGO located at Vidigal slum (Rio de Janeiro), named "Nós do morro", that rescues and supports children involved with drugs. They offer courses in theater, music and film, demonstrating the positive results of using culture and art as a social therapy. For this song Lehart has invited the elder statesmen of the favela choirs, "Vai Vai" and Seu Jorge to fully express the sentiment of the song. The performance is a little rough around the edges, but it's totally heartfelt. And the song is damned catchy!
