World Music: Rizaldi, "Hatanku Meratap (My Forest's Tears)"

(Indonesia) Rizaldi Siagian is a noted ethnomusicologist and television producer from Indonesia. In this moving video, he has composed the music and he is also singing. Indonesia has been plundered on many levels, as globalization has assaulted its culture and its resources. We hear much these days about the destruction of the rainforest, but here we get to see the desolation that results, where swaths of former habitats resemble a war zone. The video was made in collaboration with AMAN (Indigenous People Alliances of Indonesia Archipelago/Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara) and Gekko Studio, Bogor, Indonesia, March 2008.
