World Music: Väsen, "Väsen Street"

World Music: Väsen, "Väsen Street"

Sweden's power folk trio are back, with their signature sound- tight ensemble playing, the soulful violin of Mikael Marin, intriguing chord inversions courtesy of Roger Tallroth, and the prizewinning playing of the stringed Stegosaurus, otherwise known as the Nyckelharpa, by Olov Johansson. The band is so well liked in Bloomington Indiana, that there is a movement afoot to name a street after them. Väsen was so touched they wrote this song, in support of the idea. The performance is from the last Nordic Roots festival in Minneapolis, at the Cedar Cultural Center, a terrific venue and place to hang out if you're passing through town.
