Using Religious Values to Advance Women's Rights in Afghanistan

One in eight Afghan women dies during pregnancy or childbirth. To save money, Qurban-Bibi was taken by her male relatives to a local market to give birth, instead of to a hospital. She lost the baby and almost died, a situation that is not uncommon in Afghanistan. Now, Afghan religious leaders are using Islamic teachings to speak out against this neglect of women's health.
