Marian Wright Edelman, President and Founder of the Children's Defense Fund, contends that, in some ways, the American education system is worse now than it was when it was segregated. "We were not allowed to fail," she explains. "We need to hold ourselves accountable, and hold our education system accountable, because our schools are not performing."
