Karzai Begins Second Presidential Term
(Al Jazeera English: November 3, 2009) As Hamid Karzai begins his second term as president of Afghanistan, he vows to bring unity to the country, and to listen to the opposing voices of Abdullah Abdullah and the Taliban. Many Afghanis, however, still feel that Karzai stole the elections from Abdullah. Also, former British soldier Simon Mann, sentenced to 34 years in jail in Equatorial Guinea for plotting to overthrow the government, has been pardoned on humanitarian grounds. Finally, a drought in Kenya has devastating consequences.
