(Al Jazeera English: December 2, 2009) Thirty thousand more American troops will be sent to Afghanistan, U.S. President Barack Obama announced last night. The Taliban responded that they "welcome" the troop increase, and anticipate it will lead to the downfall of America. However, the American plan, which stressed the need for partnership with Pakistan, is receiving a cautious welcome in Islamabad. Also, Iran continues to defy the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog, the IAEA.
