World Music: Pacha Massive, "If You Want It"
(USA) If ever there was a band that could be called syncretic, Pacha Massive is it. Blending dub, electronica, pop, club, cumbia and reggae, it's pretty hard to actually pin down every influence in each song. "If You Want It" is a perfect example of this kind of melange, and the result is a glossy pop song that only seems to casually reference the Massive's Dominican and Colombian roots. Not so with the video, which showcases the landscape and the culture of the the Dominican Republic vividly from slums to beaches, from merengue raves to Santeria gatherings.
