World Music: X Plastaz, "Aha!"
(Tanzania) X Plastaz are a band of Tanzanian youth who sing primarily in Swahili, but who have embraced a Maasai member (Yamat). This has led them to incorporate the Maasai language into their own brand of hip hop. The group comes from the city of Arusha in the heart of Masai country. They sing about the very real issues of AIDS, unemployment, corruption and poverty. Shot in Yamat's village, "Aha!" is a bit of a departure however, as it is about finding and appreciating one's roots. The song is enhanced by Yamat's singing on the chorus, as he is a champion of the Maasai singing style.
