Yemen: The New Front in the War on Terrorism

In this interview with KTVU's Randy Shandobil, Mosaic's Jamal Dajani discusses the "powder keg" of Yemen, where political instability and security threats forced the closing of embassies in the wake of the Christmas Day attempted airliner bombing in Detroit. Al-Qaeda in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack on the U.S.-bound flight, carried out by Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab. "Al-Qaeda operates in weak countries with weak regimes," Dajani says. Yemen is "fertile ground for al-Qaeda," he continues, "especially since the United States has had all its focus on Iraq and Afghanistan."
