World Music: Moses Molelekwa, "Spirit of Tembisa"
(South Africa) Moses Taiwa Molelekwa was one of the rising stars of South African jazz when he killed himself at the age of 28. Raised in a musical household (his father played the piano and was nicknamed "Monk" due to his love of that great innovator's music), he grew up in Tembisa and was highly lauded early in life, touring extensively. This surreal animation showcases Molelekwa's technique, but also resonates with ironic images given his tragic end.
