World Music: Hurancan De Fuego, "Bomba Que Bomba"
(Venezuela) While the drumming styles of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and other Latin and Carribbean countries are familiar to many, Huracán de Fuego plays a lesser known - but just as ferocious - Venezuelan drumming style with roots in Angola and Congo. Leader Nestor Guttierez left his job as a zookeeper in Maracaibo to form the band in 1993, which is all drums and vocals. The video "Bomba Que Bomba" is a tribute to sexuality, mixing processional and ritualized movement with dance, in a joyfully erotic celebration through song.
