World Music: Wimme, "Bamboo Honey"
(Finland/Sami) Wimme Saari is from the Sami people, otherwise known as Laplanders, who are the oldest indigenous people of northern Europe. Although he sings the traditional "yoik" songs of his people, Wimme is an adventurous experimenter as well, blending free improvisation into the mix both with his vocals and instrumentation. In "Bamboo Honey" the sound is a startlingly high tech contrast to the earthy sound of the yoik. The video itself is a shamanistic journey into another reality, where modernity and ancestry merge.
