World Music: Raduza, "Studeny Nohy"
(Czech Republic) Raduza's voice sounds like a strong instrument with a pleasant rasp, so it is not surprising that she worked as a street singer before being 'discovered' by Zuzana Navarova in 1994, after which she opened for Suzanne Vega in her Prague concerts. Although she has been steadily amassing fans in the Czech Republic, she still prefers to play in small venues. Her music is very much influenced by Czech folk songs and she usually plays the accordion to accompany herself. The lyrics for "Studeny Nohi" concern themselves with someone who feels they are outcast. To express this, the animator has created a character who can be read as either the symbolic incarnation of the singer as a child, or more literally, as the child of a single mother.
