World Music: Alfredo Marcucci & Ensemble Piacevole, "Chiquilin de Bachin"
(France/Argentina) Alfredo Marcucci was born in 1930 in Buenos Aires, and had a thriving career as a bandoneon player of the tango touring internationally until he settled in Belgium in 1960. He recorded and toured prolifically until 1976 when he made the extraordinary decision to devote himself to the home front. He became a factory worker for the next ten years. But once he connected with the Belgian string quartet Ensemble Piacevole, he was back in the game and the result is his CD, Timeless Tango. "Chiquelin de Bachin" is by the great tango innovator Astor Piazzola. The charm of the video is its use of the little boy who gathers rosebuds (for nought, it seems) and can't seem to get his gameboy back from the old codger with the accordion.
