(Portugal) There's a whole new generation of fado singers coming out of the Lusophonic countries these days, and each has a special way with the "Portuguese blues." Some are attracted to the theatricality of a singer like Mariza, while others may cling to the more stoically classical singers like Mafalda Arnauth. More from this latter style, Ana Moura sings fado with startling maturity for a 25 year-old, and she has a sophisticated and understated way with the genre. She has a lovely velvety voice with a dark edge, one that is perfectly suited for the soulful tear-at-your-shawl idiom that is the heart of Portugal.
