World Music: Tribalistas, "Tribalistas"
(Brazil) It's a play on words - tri means three, and the tribalistas are a triple threat - three Brazilian superstars; Antonio Antunes, formerly of Titas, percussionist extraordinaire Carlinhos Brown, and producer/singer Marisa Montes. Holed up together while Marisa was producing a CD for Brown, they realized an opportunity to collaborate together and the resulting CD, Tribalistas was a smash hit in Brazil and nominated for four Latin Grammies. This obviously the title track and with its exuberant beat (is that Bo Diddly or clavé - or both?) and high spirits, it embodies the joyous soul of the project itself.
