World Music: Hector Buitrago, "Damaquiel"
(Colombia) Hector Buitrago does not appear on screen in this video - he is the master behind the scenes. And although his name may not be well known, he is the other half of Los Aterciopelados (The Velvet Ones), the immensely likeable and successful pop band from Colombia. Both Hector and his other half Andrea Echeverri have taken time off to pursue solo projects of late, and "Demaquiel" comes from Buitrago's "Conector." The CD is full of densely arranged originals, and sports an array of great singers. In "Demaquiel," the fine voices of Ever Suarez and Martina Camargo (well known local Colombian singers) grace the track and the video, giving it a wonderful folkloric flavor. The video itself is one of the best we have seen of late.
