World Music: Vusi Mahlasela, "River Jordan"
(South Africa) It was on a Sunday, right after taking communion in church that Vusi Mahlasela's mother collapsed and died. Her last words were to encourage her son to keep on singing, and taking his message to the world. This video is a poetic evocation of the lyric with images of baptism and the lamb of god; and even a quick animation of Vusi's mother's face in the water. (See if you can spot it.) In an interview we shot with Vusi, he also confided in us that his 12 year old daughter, who has been upset with his long absences from touring was very pleased to make an appearance in the video.
