Haiti: Emergency Medical Care After the Quake

While the magnitude of the earthquake that hit Haiti was extreme, the worst in the region in 200 years, what heavily contributed to the devastation of the quake was the already fragile state of the small island nation. Before disaster struck, Haiti was already the poorest country in the western hemisphere with a severely stressed medical system. Now eight of the 11 hospitals in Port-au-Prince are destroyed and hundreds of thousands of people injured are in desperate need of help.
