World Music: Gogol Bordello, "Start Wearing Purple"
(US/Ukraine) Here's a video that will hit you like several shots of vodka. Gogol Bordello is the invention of front man Eugene Hutz, a Ukrainian Gypsy, and Russian violinist Sergey Ryabtsev who relocated to New York and started contributing to the creative pool, with their own brand of Gypsy Punk. The band's shows are noted for their hyperactive, no holds barred energy. Despite his aggressively madman act, Hutz still comes across as quite likeable, and he is a font of energy, working on many different projects simultaneously, from musical collaborations to social action camps for the Roma of his homeland.
