World Music: Alboka, "Trapatan"
(Spain/Basque) The Basque people have a language all their own, and a lineage that stretches back to prehistory. While political events have not given them a country of their own, they have maintained their sense of identity through the years. Alboka is one of the Basque's best known groups; they are a big band with a big sound, and take their influences from just about anywhere they please. They have recently scooped up Hungarian folk pioneer Marta Sebestyèn to sing with them on a regular basis and her duet with Eliseo Parra (himself a pioneer of Spanish folk song) "Trapatan" is a beautiful combination of the lyrical and rhythmic.
