Film Description

Solid waste management has been a serious problem in developing countries like Nepal. Dumping garbage in open places like on the roads can cause serious fatal diseases and environment pollution. Tulasa Gyawali, a housewife, from Bharatpur municipality of Nepal has shown simple, reliable, practical, innovative and sustainable example of household solid waste management. She separates the waste from her house as degradable, reusable, and non degradable stuff. She uses degradable waste to make vermin compost that is used in producing vegetables and in the garden. She earns additional income from reusable stuff like plastic, paper and metal. She sells bags, sandals, and various handicrafts form these solid waste materials. She utilizes about 85% solid waste from her house within. Her house looks like a garden full of flowers, kitchen garden is beautiful with vegetables and she is happy with her work because she is now independent, has developed her leadership quality, and example in her society. Tulasa's practice regarding the management of household solid waste is one of the best sustainable example. This is the need of current time that we have to learn from Tulasa.
