Film Description

When girls in rural Africa graduate from high school, they are extremely vulnerable to early marriage, AIDS, and exploitative labor. Through Cama, a pan-African membership organization, Camfed supports young women during the transition from school to the working world, and nurtures them as leaders with the skills and vision to initiate change in their communities. The Great Ones profiles a group of young Cama members who start a preschool for orphans and other vulnerable children. Because the women come from similar backgrounds of hardship, they understand the importance of making education accessible to vulnerable children at an early age, putting them on the path to a promising future. Camfed is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting poverty through educating girls and empowering young women. Since 1993, 1,065,710 children have benefited from Camfeds educational programs.
