Uruguayan Dictatorship - Gaucho Power Lives On

The Uruguayan civic-military dictatorship lasted between 1973 and 1985. It was a period during which Uruguay was ruled by a military government that did not abide by the Constitution and emerged after the coup of June 27, 1973. This period was marked by the prohibition of political parties, the illegalization of trade unions, the media, the persecution, imprisonment and murder of opponents of the regime.
