Resilient Cities

Artist Profile: Urban Planner Daniel Carvalho of Medellin

After two decades of violence and corruption under the reign of the largest cocaine drug cartel operation in history, Medellín awakens to the sights, sounds and colors of urban renaissance.

Daniel Carvalho, an urban planner and teacher in the city, has aspirations to become a political leader in his community. In this clip, he walks us through Comuna 13, once ranked among the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world.

“When I think about social urbanism I think about the cultural groups who were made part of it. You don’t see that in architectural reviews but this is what is behind the cable car and the library in Medellin.”

Learn more about Medellin, Colombia's cultural renaissance in this episode of "Resilient Cities."
