RFK and Ethel Kennedy

The filmmakers use never-before-seen footage to tell the little-known story of Senator Robert F. Kennedy's influential June 1966 visit to South Africa during the worst years of apartheid.

The documentary offers a unique portrait of Senator Kennedy in action at an important moment in American and South African history. The five-day visit includes his iconic "Day of Affirmation" speech -- considered to be the greatest speech of his career -- at the University of Cape Town. One paragraph, featuring the famous "ripple of hope" line, is among the most quoted in American politics and appears on Kennedy's grave site at Arlington National Cemetery.
