A 10-Year-Old Girl Is Saved From Early Marriage
UNICEF correspondent Karishma Vyas reports on a UNICEF-supported program that saved "Farzana," a 10-year-old Afghan girl from being forced to marry, just 10 days before her wedding. Her hand in marriage cost her suitor, a much older man who was already married, $9,000. A local religious leader who spent three months persuading Farzana's father and groom to cancel the wedding says poverty is the primary driver behind child marriage in Afghanistan.
