A Mother's Journey
In Haiti, 63 percent of mothers deliver at home without a skilled birth attendant because they live too far from a medical center or lack the resources to seek one. The country, where 1 in every 39 newborns die within their first month of life, has the highest infant and maternal mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere.
Programs like MamaBaby Haiti provide a safe place for Haitian women to receive compassionate, respectful, and free maternity care at the hands of skilled midwives. The organization offers prenatal care and education, labor and delivery services, and postpartum and family planning care for women. The organization strives to decrease their risk of dying from what should be a normal life event: pregnancy and birth.
