Exquisipan: A Women's Bakery
Aided by Otra Cosa Network, 13 women in one of the poorest areas of northern Peru come together to make their "singastic" dreams come true in a women's bakery.
Most families in the shanty town of El Milagro, close to Trujillo, live on a dumping site and depend on picking garbage. But women from this region created Exquisipan, a bakery in a local school where mothers learn to bake and make extra income for their families. This is the first social enterprise by women and for women in the region.
By baking bread that unites, feeds, and nourishes, Exquisipan and the women behind it are baking progress.
